When you are an empty nester you should finally have time to focus on yourself. It’s not being selfish but if you don’t start that bucket list now you never will. That’s how I feel anyway. I have so much I want to do before my body gives up on me but I still have a husband to feed every day and he isn’t happy with anything other than a home cooked meal! I spoiled him I guess.
Carl and I moved to Canada because it offered us better opportunities. I grew up on a farm & Carl is a butcher so when we got the chance to move to an acreage in Saskatchewan we jumped at it. We want a connection to our food and to know exactly what we are eating.
When you want to be more selective about food choices you can end up wasting hours in the store checking out labels for all the added sugars, salt, additives & water. They always seem to come up with another way to deceive us. I will never understand why a roast isn't just plain and simple meat!
We chose the Berkshires because of their reputation for being the best tasting pork. No need for additives. They are a rare breed pig, coming under the “critical” category and by raising them we can secure their future. Their extinction will mean one less food choice for us, pushing us towards commercial raised pork.
The Berkshires have black hairs providing natural resistance to the harsh elements. This means they can be true pastured pigs. With access to shelters, wallows, fresh water and plenty of feed we have happy healthy pastured pigs who live a stress free life. We don’t have to feed them unnecessary antibiotics to keep them healthy!
If you want to be more connected to your food without having to raise it yourself then let us help you! Our pastured pork is versatile and will have you making delicious meals without hours of prep time in the kitchen or lining up in the grocery store.
Just send me an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to place an order or to ask about our pork.
